VICTORVILLE: Man tries to take repo man’s tow truck, deputies say
A Victorville man was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 10, after authorities said he tried to steal a repo man's tow truck that had hooked up his car. A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy then disarmed the man of a gun and a knife.
Caleb Peterson, 29, was arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking, a sheriff's news release said.
The incident happened about 11:20 a.m. at the San Bernardino County Department of Human Services on Palmdale Road in Victorville. A repossessor was attempting to remove a vehicle from the parking lot when he was confronted by the owner, Peterson, the release said.
Peterson struck the victim several times and tried to pull him from the tow truck and take the truck and the repossessed vehicle, the release said. The struggle could be heard by 911 dispatchers.
The deputy arrived to see Peterson striking the victim, the release said. The deputy was able to overcome Peterson's resistance and arrest him. The deputy searched Peterson and found a handgun in the back of his waistband as well as a large knife.
The victim suffered minor injuries.
